TOB passages

Theology of the Body passages:

Romans 12:9-10

1 Corinthians 6:10

1 Corinthians 6:13b-20

1 Corinthians 7

Romans 1:20-32

James 1:12-15

I will place my law within them, and write it upon their hearts;
I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
No longer will they have need to teach their friends and relatives
how to know the LORD.
All, from least to greatest, shall know me, says the LORD,
for I will forgive their evildoing and remember their sin no more (Jer 31:33-34).

...he spilled his semen on the ground whenever he went into [her], so that he would not give offspring.... What he did was displeasing in the sight of the Lord, and he put him to death also (Genesis 38:9-10).

You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body (1 Cor 6:19-20 RSV). See above also. Redundant
He responded, "Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written: This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines human precepts. You disregard God's commandment but cling to human tradition." He summoned the crowd again and said to them, "Hear me, all of you, and understand. Nothing that enters one from outside can defile that person; but the things that come out from within are what defile. "From within people, from their hearts, come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly. All these evils come from within and they defile." (Mark 7:21-23)

But the one who peers into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres, and is not a hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, such a one shall be blessed in what he does (James 1: 25).

Passages of Hope 2

I have been adding Bible verses to my previous post as I find them and decided to start a new post as the previous one is getting a bit long. I will continue to add verses here as I find them. Feel free to suggest any that you may know or find.

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful and he will not allow you to be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it (1 Corinthians10:13).

Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more (Romans 5:20).

I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, God's dwelling is with the human race. He will dwell with them and they will be his people and God himself will always be with them (as their God). He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, ailing or pain, (for) the old order has passed away." The one who sat on the the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." Then he said, "Write these words down, for they are trustworthy and true" (Revelation 21: 3-5).

Commit your cause to the Lord, trust in him, and he will act on your behalf (Psalms 37:5).

I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10b).

Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer (Romans 12:12).

John 3:16

1 Samuel 1; 2: 1-10

Isaiah 58:5?-9

Ephesians 3:20-21

John 14:27

John 16:33

Luke 11:9-10

I believed, even when I said,"I am greatly afflicted." Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his faithful ones. O Lord, I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of your handmaid; you have loosed my bonds. To you will I offer sacrifice of thanksgiving, and I will call upon the name of the Lord. Psalm 116

Brothers and sisters: If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but handed him over for us all, how will he not also give us everything else along with him? (Romans 8:31-32)

Jesus said to his disciples: "Be merciful, just as you Father is merciful. Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together , shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you." (Luke 6:36-38)

Come now, let us set things right, says the Lord: Though your sins be like scarlet, they may become white as snow; Though they be crimson red, they may become white as wool. If you are willing, and obey, you shall eat the good things of the land; but if you refuse and resist, the sword shall consume you: for the mouth of the Lord and spoken. (Isaiah 1:16-20).

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose hope is the Lord. He is like a tree planted beside the waters that stretches out its roots to the stream: It fears not the heat when it comes, its leaves stay green; In the year of drought it shows no distress, but still bears fruit. More tortuous than all else is the human heart, beyond remedy; who can understand it? I , the Lord, alone probe the mind and test the heart, to reward everyone according to his ways, according to the merit of his deeds. (Jeremiah 17: 7-10)

Blessed the man who follows not the counsel of the wicked nor walks in the way of sinners, nor sits in the comapnay of the insolent, but delights in the law of the Lord and meditates on his law day and night. He is like a tree planted near running water, that yields its fruit in due season, and whose leaves never fade. Whatever he does, prospers... for the Lord watches over the way of the just. (Psalm 1)

Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all my being, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. He pardons all your iniquities, he heals all your ills. He redeems your life from destruction, he crowns you with kindness and compassion. (Psalm 103)

Luke 15:1-3, 11-32

Psalm 19

The foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength (Romans 5:8).

Psalm 37:23-24

Psalm 131

May His peace fill your life and guard your heart, and may His love keep you in all your ways (Numbers 6:24-26). Or Numbers 6:23-27.

I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower.... Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit.... Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.... If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask fro whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.... If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love.... I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete (John 15:1-11 RSV).

So you have pain now; but I will see you again, andyour hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. On that day you will ask nothing of me. Very truly, I tell you, if you ask anyting of the Fther in my name, he will give it to you. Until now you havenot asked for anyting in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete (John 16:22-24 RSV).

I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world (John 16:33).

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13 RSV).

As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also much forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in your richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him (Colossians 3:12-17).

Rev 11:15-19.

Surely God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid, for the Lord God is my strength and my might; he has become my salvation. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. and you will say in that day: Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known his deeds among the nations; proclaim that his name is exalted. Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be known in  all the earth. Shout aloud and sing for joy, O royal Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel (Isaiah 12:2-6).

And your ears shall hear a word behind you: “This is the way; walk in it,” when you would turn to the right or the left (Isaiah 30:21).

Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you encounter various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. And let perseverance be perfect, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and he will be given it. But if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and he will be given it. But he should ask in faith, not doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed about by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord, since he is a man of two minds, unstable in all his ways (James 1:2-8).

When the just cry out, the LORD hears and rescues them from all distress. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted, saves those whose spirit is crushed. Many are the troubles of the just, but the LORD delivers from them all (Psalm 34:18).

Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you (James 4:8a).

Passages of Hope

While the site is under construction, I'll give any friends or readers who come by a little something to think about. There are some of my favorite Bible passages, ones that give me hope. Do any of them strike you in a special way?

For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for you welfare and not for harm, to give you a future full of hope (Jer 29:11)

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose (Rom 8:28)

We also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. (Rom 5:3-5)

We look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen in eternal.... for we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Cor 4:18, 5:7)

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me (Phil 4:13)

It is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be put to shame in any way, but that by my speaking with all boldness, Christ will be exalted now as always... (Phil 1:20)

Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. (Hebrews 4:14-16)

...the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me [the crown of righteousness] on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing. (2 Timothy 4:8b)

Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen, and the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:8-9)

As the Father has loved Me, so I have loved you. Now remain in My love. If you obey My commands, you will remain in My love, just as I have obeyed My Father's commands and remain in His love. I have told you this so that My joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. (John 15:9-11)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Phillippians 4:6-7)

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4)

For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall never be shaken. (Psalms 62:1-2)

What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness [mercy], and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalms 37:4)

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Let the scoundrel forsake his way, and the wicked his thoughts; let him turn to the Lord for mercy; to our God, who is generous in forgiving. (Isaiah 55:7)

Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen. (Heb 11:1)

He gives strength to the fainting; for the weak he makes vigor abound. Though young men faint and grow weary, and the youths stagger and fall, they that hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar as with eagles' wings; they will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint. (Isaiah 40:29-31)

Therefore, that I might not become too elated, a thorn in the flesh was given to me.... Three times I begged the Lord about this, that it might leave me, but he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.' I will rather boast most gladly of my weakness, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me. Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ for when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:8-10)

Naked I came forth from my mother's womb, and naked shall I go back again. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord! (Job 1:21)

Give thanks to the Lord, invoke his name; make known among the nations his deeds. Sing to him, sing his praise, proclaim all his wondrous deeds. Glory in his holy name; rejoice, O hearts that seek the Lord! Look to the Lord in his strength; seek to serve him constantly. Recall the wondrous deeds that he has wrought, his portents, and the judgments he has uttered (1 Chronicles 16: 8-12).

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his kindness endures forever (1 Chronicles 16:34) - all of 1 Chron 16 is great

My soul rests in God alone, from whom comes my salvation. God alone is my rock and salvation, my secure height; I shall never fall (Psalms 62:2-3) My soul, be at rest in God alone, from whom comes my hope. (62:6)

I keep the Lord always before me; with the Lord at my right, I shall never be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, my soul rejoices; my body also dwell s secure, for you will not abondon me to Sheol, nor let your faithful servant see the pit. You will show me the path to life, abounding joy in your presence, the delights at your right hand forever. (Psalms 16:8-11)

Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light (Matthew 11:28-30).

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you. By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete (John 15: 7-11).

I am the vine, and my Father is the vine grower. He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.... Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing (John 15: 2, 5b).

Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophetic utterances. Test everything; retain what is good. Refrain from every kind of evil. May the God of peace himself make you perfectly holy and may you entirely, spirit, soul, and body, be preserved blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will also accomplish it (1 Thessalonians 5: 16-24).

"My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior. For he has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him" (Luke 1: 46b-50).

David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, "Praise be to you, Lord, the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name" (NIV 1Chronicles 29:11-13).

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption, through which we cry, "Abba, Father!" The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him (Romans 8:14-17).

I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us. For creation awaits with eager expectation the revelation of the children of God; for creation was made subject to futility, not of its own accord but because of the one who subjected it, in hope that creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even until now; and not only that , but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, we also groan within ourselves as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. For in hope we were saved. Now hope that sees for itself is not hope. For who hopes from what one sees. But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait with endurance (Romans 8:18-25).

In the same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible groanings. And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because it intercedes for the holy ones according to God's will (Romans 8: 26-27).

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10).
